In the next-to-last game of the Colorado Rockies' 2006 season,
against the Cubs in Chicago last October, Jamey Carroll hit a home
run and a triple in his first two at-bats.
He grounded out the next time up and was putting on his batting
gloves to hit again when Rockies manager Clint Hurdle told him to
take a seat.
Carroll was done for the day, Hurdle told him, and done for the
rest of the baseball season. He wouldn't be playing in the season
finale the next day either.
Carroll wasn't too happy. And Hurdle sensed it. "He told me, `You
may be mad now, but you'll thank me for this later,' " Carroll
recalled.
