Amy Higginbotham is not only a good cook but is also a true West Sider.

"I was born and raised on the West Side," she said, "and I intend to stay here."

Higginbotham, the daughter of Sam and Linda Shaw and sister of Eric, began cooking while a student at West Terrace, helping her mother prepare family meals.

Now she cooks for her family, husband Bob and daughters Coleigh, a sophomore at Reitz, and Linsey, in third grade at West Terrace.

Cooking is still a family tradition, she says.

"Mom always made meals," she said. "When I cook a meal, I want the whole meal. If I'm making chicken, I want mashed potatoes, corn, the whole thing. That's the way mom cooked.
