Harold Kempf, 71, and his wife, Shirley, 67, no longer run Kempf's Donut Bank Bakery & Coffee Shop chain, which they founded in 1967. They turned that task over a number of years ago to their sons Chris, Joe and Ben.

But the couple just can't stay away.

Harold Kempf said he and his wife continue to pop into at least one of the chain's six locations daily just to see how things are going and to meet and greet friends.

On Wednesday, they'll attend a 9 a.m. groundbreaking ceremony for the chain's seventh location, which is earmarked for a building site at U.S. 41 and Lincoln Avenue.

Construction soon will begin on the newest Donut Bank store. The work is expected to take 45 to 60 days to ...
