Local residents helped the Greater Evansville Figure Skating Club in its time of need.

Guests at the Deaconess Hospital Foundation's annual gala Saturday night raised enough in cash and pledges to cover much of the damage done to the figure skating club's fundraising booth.

The West Side Nut Club Fall Festival is next week, and the figure skating organization raises substantial operating funds during the popular weeklong event.

But without a working booth, cooking appliances and refrigerator, the skating group's Fall Festival effort was in jeopardy - until Saturday.
