Purple was always Patty Carroll's favorite color. And she was the
first thought for her son after Jamey Carroll's 13th-inning sacrifice
fly lifted Colorado to a 9-8 victory over visiting San Diego late
Monday night in the National League Wild Card tiebreaker.
Up in heaven, Jamey Carool said, his mom might have nudged against
God, asking him to help. Patty died at age 54 in December 2005.
"She was up there making sure something good was going to happen,"
said Carroll, a former Castle High School and University of
Evansville standout. "It's been kind of a long year. We had an
amazing run. This was a great one for the team. "
