Campaigners were planning to protest today outside a post office earmarked for closure.

More than 500 people have signed petitions calling for Post Office Ltd to drop its plans to shut the post office in Filton Avenue, Horfield.

Bristol city councillor Sean Emmett has sent the petitions to Post Office Ltd and copies to Postwatch, the council and the area's MP.

Mr Emmett, the Liberal Democrat member for Lockleaze, has also urged the petitioners to write to Post Office Ltd to object formally to the closure proposal by this Thursday's deadline.
