The Falkirk Wheel, which will be opened by the Queen tomorrow, is
set to rejuvenate Scotland's waterways by linking the Forth and Clyde
with the Union Canal. LORNE JACKSON found his head spinning in
amazement after visiting the big wheel for boats.
IN hindsight, it was a pretty daft question - "How do I find the
Falkirk Wheel?" I asked.
Lynda Somerville, communications and marketing manager for British
Waterways, gave me a minutely detailed description of exactly how to
get there.
"Head for Falkirk and you'll spot a large wheel-shaped object. Got
that? Great. See you soon."
No need for a map and compass, then! Arriving in Falkirk, there
did indeed appear to be a very large, wheel-shaped ...
