Article: Minister's pledge on OAP free personal care

HEALTH minister Malcolm Chisholm has reassured pensioners that all those entitled to free personal care will receive it.

Mr Chisholm's promise follows reports that hundreds across Scotland face being put on waiting lists before receiving care.

Five local authorities have revealed they have concerns that demands introduced by the Scottish Executive just four months ago will outstrip government funding.

Under the Executive's policy - estimated to cost (pounds) 125million a year - everyone who passed an assessment of need would be entitled to free medical care and (pounds) 90 a week to pay for personal care such as bathing and cleaning.
