THE drive to turn Glasgow into a 24-hour city is putting huge
pressure on police resources, warned the man in charge of policing
the city centre today.
With 295 pubs and clubs in the square half-mile heart of the city,
up to 70,000 revellers a night flood in each weekend.
And with some clubs open until 5am, police chief John Wilson warns
violence and drunken behaviour is rising.
Mr Wilson said of those arrested and processed at A division's
Stewart Street base at one point last year, 97% had been picked up in
the city centre.
