INTERNET retailer Amazon today unveiled plans to open a major
distribution centre in the west of Scotland with 300 new jobs.
The massive warehouse - the size of five football pitches - will
open in the autumn in Gourock, Inverclyde.
Amazon, originally an on-line bookseller, is now an internet
shopping centre, selling everything from clothes to DVDs.
The Gourock centre will handle orders for a wide range of products
- including CDs, books, electronic goods, toys and DIY tools - from
customers in Europe, Asia and the US.
It will be the firm's second UK base and follows an 80% jump in
international sales over the past year.
