Article: Massive crackdown on festive drinkers; Police plan 3am blitzes to curb city centre violence and disorder

DRUNKEN revellers will be kept under control by a massive police operation this festive season.

Dozens of officers will patrol "hot spots" in Glasgow city centre when clubs empty in the early hours of the morning.

The operation - called the city centre plan - aims to deter violence and disorder, and reassure Christmas partygoers.

Police have identified the hour between 3am and 4am - when tens of thousands of revellers spill on to the streets - as the peak time for violence.

Over coming weeks, the city will be busier than normal, with hundreds of parties taking place. And police are determined the festive season will pass off peacefully.
