AN overwhelming 87% of people want a direct say in who sits on
Scotland's health boards.
Glasgow MSP Bill Butler revealed the results of a consultation
into legislation he is proposing which would see health board members
directly elected by the people.
Of 160 responses received, 139 supported the principle of direct
elections to NHS boards, 20 were not in favour and five were unsure.
The responses came from individuals, community organisations,
trade unions, local authorities, health and medical organisations,
MSPs and MPs.
Mr Butler, MSP for Anniesland, put forward his bill after being
disgusted by the attitude of Glasgow health bosses over their plan to
close the Queen Mother's maternity ...
