WHEN she stands up on stage in a bold new play, called womensbusiness, at the Soho Theatre in London at the end of this month, Sandra Brown will be telling her story to a new audience.

It is an extraordinary story. As she says, quoting the late author Iris Murdoch, 'Real life is so much odder than any book'.

However, Sandra will be seeing beyond the audience. "It will be the conversation with my father that I never had, " she says quietly.

"I will be talking about the line of women I come from and their strengths . . . but I think I have a double dose of strength because I have been able to speak up about things my mother and grandmother could not disclose because of their culture."
