But step through the kitchen door of George Reid's tenement
apartment in Charing Cross Mansions and that's precisely what you'll
find. Built on the old lane which lies behind Sauchiehall Street,
George's garden is his own personal oasis in the heart of the city
and the only private garden in the building.
George said: "I have landscaped it with lots of palms,
rhododendrons, ferns and bamboos. There's lots of garden furniture,
too, with parasols and benches.
"When the weather's nice I have my breakfast out there. I even
have dinner parties with lights and candles around the garden."
