A UNION has warned psychiatric patients and staff at hospitals in Glasgow will be put in danger if the health board goes ahead with plans to axe nurse managers.

NHS Greater Glasgow is planning to remove four lead nurses in acute psychiatry, responsible for managing staff at five psychiatric units.

And the Independent Federation of Nursing in Scotland has warned this will increase the risk of too few staff, with insufficient experience, being left to look after patients.

But they have been told to compete for new general managers' posts, leading to fears they could lose their jobs.
