A SPY camera found hidden in a classroom at a Glasgow school today provoked an angry backlash from education chiefs.

They said no permission was given for the installation of camera equipment and denied claims of mystery gas leaks at St Margaret Mary's Secondary in Castlemilk.

Construction giant Amey - responsible for rebuilding, refurbishment and maintenance at the city's secondary schools - has suspended the employee who fitted the spy camera in a home economics classroom.

Amey claimed the school had been dogged by unexplained gas leaks and the worker had planted the camera to try to solve the mystery.
