TRYING to remain impartial and open-minded when it comes to Jerry Springer - The Opera is a bit like trying to stifle a chuckle when a dozen Klu Klux Klan figures are tap-dancing across a stage.

It just doesn't work. Having read screeds about its blasphemous content and distractedly watched the controversial BBC2 screening last New Year, it was with some Springer baggage that I witnessed the opening night in Glasgow.

What I didn't expect was an uplifting, thought-provoking show that was technically brilliant and ultimately had a message of loving thy neighbour and acceptance of others that doesn't get a mention in any anti-Jerry sentiment.
