A LATE-NIGHT scheme aimed at keeping Glasgow's streets safe is being expanded.

A second Nite Zone - a transport hub with wardens designed to get revellers home quickly after a night out - is being set up at Sauchiehall Street.

Deputy council leader Jim Coleman says the scheme is needed to tame the area, which he describes as being like "the wild west" on busy nights.

And council and police bosses are also making the city's first Nite Zone, at Central Station, bigger.

The moves come just weeks after the Evening Times revealed violent crime in the city centre had fallen by a fifth after the introduction of the scheme.
