Article: Less housework but it's still a chore - for women

SCOTS have downed their dusters and hung up their Hoovers - we are doing less housework than ever before. Yet when it comes to cleaning the house, women are still doing more than men.

New research from the Office for National Statistics shows we spent an average of two hours 22 minutes per day on housework last year - half an hour less than in 2000.

The survey reveals that 77-per cent of men and 92-per cent of women spent some time each day during housework, compared with 86- per cent and 96-per cent respectively, in 2000.

But the girls were more houseproud - whatever their income, they spent more time on chores than men, even those who work full-time.
