Since when did the North Side give up the right to choose its own
elected officials?
For the first time in local political history, the South Side is
attempting to dictate the selection of a U.S. representative from the
North Side. That choice is traditionally made by political leaders in
the district.
Mayor Daley is promoting former White House aide Rahm Emanuel as
the successor to gubernatorial candidate Rod Blagojevich in the 5th
Congressional District.
But neighborhood activist Nancy Kaszak, who is leading Emanuel in
the CBS-2/WBBM poll, may very well be the people's choice. The poll
gives her a lead of 34 percent to 26 percent, with 10 percent for
