IAN PAISLEY and Martin McGuinness, once the deadliest of enemies,
stood shoulder to shoulder in Belfast.
They consigned generations of bitterness to history and cleared
the way for a spectacular new era of peace and cooperation in
Northern Ireland.
Nearly 10 years after the Good Friday peace agreement, Prime
Minister Tony Blair and the Republic's Taoiseach Bertie Ahern sat in
the VIP gallery and witnessed history as Mr Paisley, head of the
Protestant Free Presbyterian Church and Mr McGuinness, a former IRA
leader, pledged themselves to a future powersharing government.
