DESPITE all the talk of environmental damage and congested roads, most of us wouldn't give up our cars even if our lives depended on it - which, if you believe in global warming, they just might!

Both the environmentalists and the politicians would like to see us switching to public transport.

But a new survey confirms what has long been suspected - that, when it comes down to it, not too many of us are prepared to give up the comfort and convenience of our cars to battle for a seat on the bus or train.

And most are prepared to put up with ever increasing costs to stay in their cars.
