Article: Medrano seeks redemption Ex-alderman looks to re-enter politics after conviction

Ambrosio Medrano looks at life in five-minute intervals.

When he lost his first campaign, he blamed not spending an extra five minutes shaking hands or talking to constituents.

When he was a Chicago alderman, he would give everyone--even his enemies--at least five minutes.

And he blames a five-minute lapse in judgment for stalling a promising political career.

"Nobody put a gun to my head and said, 'Take the money.' Nobody forced me to do what I did," said Medrano, who was the first Chicago alderman indicted in Operation Silver Shovel, an FBI investigation into City Council corruption. "It was my fault.

"I never bothered to talk to anyone about it before I did it. This didn't have to happen."
