Article: Glasgow to Edinburgh in 35mins . . . but you'll have to wait 10 years

TRAIN journeys between Glasgow and Edinburgh could be cut to just 35 minutes under new government plans to electrify the main line between the cities.

And the frequency of trains would be increased from four to six an hour to upgrade services between Queen Street and Waverley stations.

Transport Minister Stewart Stevenson says he wants to see a "faster, more frequent, more reliable and more attractive" service.

The snag is it's going to take at least 10 years to reduce the present 50 minutes it takes to travel the route.

Mr Stevenson revealed his vision in the Scottish Parliament as he announced the cancellation of plans for a GBP600million Edinburgh Airport Rail Link.
