Article: Star turn leads team to title win

Havelock North High School's Michal Tangaroa pitched her team to a national secondary school girls softball title at Saxton Field.

Havelock North yesterday won the girls title defeating Penrose High School 5-0 in the final of the five-day tournament. Although Havelock North had depth across the diamond, there was no doubt Tangaroa was the star performer.

The daughter of former Black Sox legend Chubb Tangaroa, who was also the Havelock North coach, was outstanding in the final recording nine strike-outs and a key three-base hit in the fifth. She made a clean sweep of the tournament's awards being named the MVP, top pitcher and top batter with an average of 0.727.
