Article: Te Atiawa reaches the home straight

The final Waitangi Tribunal hearing for Te Tau Ihu starts in Nelson next week. Angela Moriarty talks to Te Atiawa chairman Pat Park about what comes next. Sitting on a seat at the entrance of the Te Awhina Marae wharenui, Pat Park recalls helping build kaumatua flats on marae when he was 10 years old.

"I can't seem to remember when I wasn't involved in iwi things,'' he says.

Park took over as chairman of Te Atiawa Iwi Trust in October last year. Having been a trustee of Te Atiawa for 10 years, he had pulled out of his Motueka panelbeating business in April to work with his iwi.
