Mold-related issues, for both health issues and property damage,
are becoming quite a concern for some condominium associations. In
fact, some insurance companies are deciding not to offer policies
that cover liability related to mold.
"Insurance companies are beginning to put mold exclusions in
policies," said Barbara Wick, president of Northfield-based Community
Association Risk Management and Insurance Consultants. "Mold is going
into the absolute 'no coverage' category."
Some special policies, with hefty additional premium, may be
obtained that cover mold. Wick said some recent insurance disputes
over mold are driving the move toward industry-wide policy
exclusions.
