Article: A down to earth `people person'

A long-serving, top nursing administrator in Nelson, who was awarded a Queen's Service Medal for her services to the community, is remembered by friends and colleagues as a down to earth "people person''.

Barbara Phyllis White died in Wellington in April.

Born in Wellington in 1939, Barbara completed her general nursing and maternity training there before venturing overseas to gain further nursing experience in England and Australia, returning to New Zealand in the mid-1960s.

In between getting married and having four children, she held senior positions at Waikato Hospital and Southland Hospital.
