Article: Religious views

Sir, Patrick Cronin (Mailbox, December 29) suggests that I want to suppress freedom.

The Nelson Mail has a monopoly position here. It can print, at its expense, from the Koran, Bible or Mao's thoughts with impunity. Its terse dismissal of my objection to "freebie'' Bible thoughts is its business, we simply disagree, but that's life.

However, it's a good newspaper that seems to strive for fairness. Nevertheless, free publication of propaganda of any stripe is very different to accepting letters to the editor or paid notices.

My view of the paper's stance is that it impinges upon freedom. Either everybody who has religious views and wants them published for free ...
