Gang task force ineffectual without resources City can't fund suggested solutions

POMONA -- The Mayor's Youth and Family Task Force can't solve Pomona's gang infestation but officials think it's the best the city can do for a problem stretching far beyond its borders and its means.

The task force is the city's most visible response to the April shooting death of a CHP officer by a teen police believe wanted to impress the city's largest gang.

"One of the biggest things that we have to do is break the cycle of gangs," Mayor Eddie Cortez said. "We can have a discussion for 24 hours about this issue or that but if we don't just do something to break that cycle we'll lose more children.
