Article: McCook bribery trial to begin

On the face of it, there didn't seem to be much of a chance for William "Shep" McCook's billboard project in Colton.

Federal prosecutors taking McCook to trial Tuesday in Los Angeles say that would have been the case if he hadn't bribed his way into approval.

In one of the last remaining court actions involving San Bernardino County's decade-long corruption and bribery cases, McCook is being tried for paying off local officials to put up the large billboards in Colton at the interchange of the 10 and 215 freeways.

McCook is coming off of what could be a disastrous ruling for him in a civil case related to corruption in the county. A judge tentatively ruled Aug. 4 that McCook owes the county ...
