USC assistant Norton to face alma mater

Ken Norton Jr. wanted nothing more than to give back to his alma mater, to share his great enthusiasm and knowledge with the next generation of football players. UCLA essentially shut the door in his face.

So Norton did what those close to him considered nothing short of sacrilege: he turned to USC.

The Trojans welcomed Norton, the ultimate Bruin, with open arms, hiring him as a graduate assistant coach in February. On Saturday he faces one of the most bizarre days of his life. Norton will return to the Rose Bowl, his home stadium for four years, but will be looking across the field at his beloved Bruins.

And those UCLA supporters who might jeer Norton when he walks onto the field wearing ...
