March Air Reserve Base near Riverside is the apparent winner of a
three-way contest for the region's economic development plum of the
year home to DHL's West Coast hub and 400 jobs.
The international air cargo carrier announced Friday that it
intends to sign a lease with a developer if the deal is approved
Wednesday by the March Joint Powers Commission.
John Husing, a Redlands economist who studies the Inland Empire,
said DHL's decision will speed up industrial development around March
and slightly cool the 10 Freeway corridor between Fontana and
Redlands, where 43 companies have each taken more than 250,000 square
feet of space between 2000 and 2004.
