Article: Perfect attendance leads city to grant special recognition

With only half of Latino males graduating from California high schools, Arturo Ceballos Jr. became a different type of statistic.

Ceballos, 18, of Rancho Cucamonga graduated from Los Osos High School June 10 with perfect attendance since kindergarten.

"It's not necessary to have perfect attendance for 13 years - just go to school and dedicate yourself to learning while you're there," Ceballos said. "It will help you succeed in life."

According to a study by Harvard University, only 54 percent of Latino males in California high schools graduated in 2002. In honor of Ceballos' perfect attendance, the city of Rancho Cucamonga awarded him with a certificate of recognition.
