Article: Kaiser asks children to turn off TV for week

FONTANA - Children who go for a checkup at Kaiser Permanente Medical Center this week likely won't get to watch television as they wait to see their doctor.

Instead, they'll see posters telling them to keep away from the tube for an entire week.

Physicians and staff members at Kaiser are pushing hard to get patients to participate in TV Turnoff 2005, a weeklong campaign starting today designed to get children and adults away from their televisions and into other activities.

"It's really about lifestyles," said Dr. Marla Law Abrolat, a pediatrician at Kaiser, adding it was her hope that a week away from television would compel people to adopt more healthful habits in the long-term. "People ...
