Jim Foster, San Bernardino County Supervisor Dennis Hansberger's
influential chief of staff, resigned Thursday, saying questions of
his involvement in a profitable land deal had become too much of a
distraction.
Foster had been on paid administrative leave since July after
controversy erupted about a 400 percent profit he made on surplus
land purchased from San Bernardino County by longtime friend and
business partner Brett Granlund.
Granlund, a former GOP Assemblyman from Yucaipa and now a state
lobbyist, has said Foster identified the land and that he put
together the deal with the understanding that Foster was part of it.
