Article: Fire destroys Ontario mulch company

ONTARIO - A fire erupted at a wood recycling plant Saturday causing more than $600,000 in damage and sending three firefighters to the hospital for heat exhaustion.

The Ontario Fire Department responded to a report of smoke near Chino and Ontario avenues at 12:35 p.m., said Ontario Fire Capt. John Sitar.

The first call came from the Chino Airport control tower, Sitar said.

"Then we received numerous other calls after that," said Ontario Fire Investigator Frank Huddleston.

Upon arrival, firefighters saw a "fully involved industrial building," at Artesia Sawdust Products Inc., Huddleston said.
