It was your typical potluck. Fried chicken, casseroles, Jell-o
squares and salads galore.
Children were laughing, people talking and everybody eating.
About 200 people gathered in a large community room for an early
Fourth of July celebration. It didn't seem to matter that the holiday
was days away, the close-knit group in the Upland community liked
each other so well that just wanted an excuse to be together.
Attendees came from different cultures, ethnic backgrounds and
religions, but they all had one thing in common. They all live at the
Los Olivos, a low income housing complex.
