Article: Ex-panther Eldridge Cleaver's last radical move: to Pomona

ELDRIDGE CLEAVER, the former Black Panther activist, has a new book out, "Target Zero: A Life in Writing.'' As he died in 1998, a book tour is not expected.

Still, publication of Cleaver's stray writings calls attention to the Bay Area radical's final years, which he spent in Rialto, Fontana and Pomona.

Cleaver is best remembered for writing "Soul on Ice'' during a stint in prison, helping found the Black Panthers and coining an enduring expression.

He declared: "What we're saying today is that you're either part of the solution or you're part of the problem.''

(In a less inspired moment, he designed anatomically fitted men's pants with a sock in front dubbed the "Cleaver sleeve.'')
