With a slowing of housing appreciation, foreclosure activity in
San Bernardino County increased to the highest level since the first
quarter of 2004, a real estate information service reported Tuesday.
Lending institutions sent 1,670 notices of default to San
Bernardino County residences in the January to March period, an
increase of 17 percent from the same period 12 months earlier.
A notice of default is the first stage in the foreclosure
process.
Statewide, lenders sent 18,668 default notices to California
homeowners, up 28.7 percent from the first quarter of 2005.
In Riverside County, the number of default notices increased 64.3
percent to 2,148, the highest since the first ...
