Article: County returning to paper ballots

Sounding somewhat perturbed, San Bernardino County Registrar Kari Verjil announced Tuesday that her office would revert to using paper ballots for elections.

Verjil told the county Board of Supervisors that the move was necessary to comply with Secretary of State Debra Bowen's recent decision to decertify the county's $16 million electronic voting system.

The supervisors unanimously approved bringing back the paper ballots.

Switching back to paper ballots will cost the county $1.5 million, officials said.
