A Debate has erupted over the election of Gloucester's first Asian
mayor.
Harjit Gill, Labour councillor for Barton and Tredworth, is set to
be installed as mayor tonight.
However, The Citizen has received numerous letters protesting that
fellow councillor Carol Francis should have taken up the post.
Coun Francis said she was "embarrassed" and "disappointed" by the
attention the mayoral election has received.
And Coun Gill said he was elected fairly through a democratic
party vote.
In one letter to The Citizen, Ms L. Thomas, of Victory Road,
Tredworth, said she was disappointed that the long-standing Coun
Francis was not elected mayor.
