Three men of Middle Eastern heritage, driving cars with Illinois
license plates, were being detained this afternoon in South Florida
after a woman said she overheard them laughing about Sept. 11 in a
Georgia restaurant and saying, "They think they were sad on 9/11,
wait until 9/13."
But police haven't linked the men to terrorist activities, and
federal sources involved in the investigation reportedly believe the
three men were talking in jest in order to irritate patrons who had
been looking at them suspiciously in the Georgia restaurant.
Traffic was shut down on a section of Interstate 75, known as
Alligator Alley, the main cross-state route in South Florida, as
