Can you imagine Gloucester without its glorious Cathedral?

A strange question maybe, but had it not been for one man's foresight just over 350 years ago, there would be no medieval gem to attract thousands of visitors to the city every year.

John Dorney isn't a well-known name in Gloucester's history, but had it not been for him and the timely intervention of the city's 'Common Council' there would be no Cathedral to grace the city's skyline.

Neither would there be a Mayor's chair in the Cathedral's choir to remind us of the city's struggle in 1656 to retain the building.
