There are apartment bargains to be found out there, as the Chicago
rental market continues to do battle with the low interest rates and
tempting condominium prices.
Incentives such as a month or two of free rent are being offered
at buildings that still need to fill units before the fall. Some
large landlords have even lowered rents instead of offering
incentives.
A combination of condominium competition, an uncertain economy and
ailing businesses are keeping some apartments empty, according to
Maurice Ortiz, marketing director for the Apartment People placement
service, 3121 N. Broadway.
