You knew it was going to happen. If you couldn't see
it coming in the deformation and decadence of the American game for,
lo, these many years, you could see it in the ascent of the rest of
the world.
When the United States lost to Argentina 87-80 in the second round
of the World Basketball Championship on Wednesday in Indianapolis--a
city in our country, remember--it came almost as a relief.
The flash, the trash, the dribble-between-my-legs-20-times-before-
I-clown-your-silly-butt, one-on-one, screw-the-coach, screw-the-D,
it's-all-about-me-and-my-bling style of play had to fall.
