There was time when the living room was called the parlor. That was where the good furniture went. And it wasn't used much except when company came to call.

Living rooms, and parlors, still occupy a place in the hearts and the homes of many who remember them. But living rooms are getting smaller, and in some houses disappearing altogether.

More affluent buyers want that living room, according to Judith Di Monte, executive vice president of Joe Keim Builders Inc.
