As news of wholesale post office closures across Derbyshire hit
home yesterday, residents prepared to fight to keep their
facilities. But postmasters were generally tight-lipped on having to
shut up shop. Shirley Brooks reports.
Shocked villagers in Egginton fear that the closure of their post
office will mean "the death of village life".
And they are prepared to fight to preserve it.
They were due to meet South Derbyshire MP Mark Todd today at the
branch, in Church Road, which has been listed among 35 Derbyshire
post offices in danger of facing the axe.
The proposed closure, which would see villagers in Egginton having
to travel to neighbouring Willington or Etwall, is part of ...
