John Mills is a testament to the work of the Royal British Legion.
As he sits in his living room and looks around, everything he sees is
thanks to the help of the Poppy Appeal. Catherine Oakes reports.
When John Mills signed up for the Army at the age of 19, he never
thought that, years later, he would be living in a hostel for the
homeless "without a penny to his name".
The 52-year-old left the Royal Engineers in 1980, five years after
joining. He had been promised work by a relative but the job did not
materialise. After that, Mr Mills found himself on a rocky career
path.
