As 35 post offices throughout Derbyshire prepare for the
possibility of closure, those who rely on the service are preparing
to protest. Chris Mallett reports from Chester Green where a
disabled man and his mother say their local branch is as important as
ever.
For cerebral palsy sufferer John Kitchen, the news that his local
post office might be closed was cause for alarm.
The 47-year-old said the branch in Mansfield Road, Chester Green,
was a vital lifeline because it was where he collected his disability
allowance.
He said it made him feel safe to know that he could deal with
money matters close to home and did not want to face banking
elsewhere.
